Well, the quarter is over, and I am now in Humanites. All of these experiments were incompleted, and plan b was a failed experiment. I did not get to complete my hypothesis for each of these. Maybe next time... sob...there isn't going to be a next time!!! If I had to do this again I would choose a very good experiment, although this was fun. Science Rocks!!
Marie Curie's Independent Projects
Plan A: Grow carnivorous plants and observe them to see how they eat and what type of acid they use (if they use it)
Currently, I only have a plant that is about the size of the mouse clicker. It is day 33. I started on the day we did our fast plants the wrong way.
I don't know what day it is. I figured out what my first plant is. It's a venus fly trap.
4/28 Day something: I still have it, although it is not growing. I found the instuction manual when my sister and I were planting her "fairy" garden kit, like mine in her box. Ms. Jensen is going to be so angry at me. :)
FAILED Plan B: Take two fish, one male and one female of different species that won't kill each other and see how they get along.
One of my fish died last week, so I am going to have to get a new mate for my male. Lately I have been teaching him the abc's. He gets bored at xyz and swims away. It is day 21. I think.
Day... something. Someone fed our fish (grace, shannon, and me) the wrong food. alot of it. we are trying to find out who the culprit is. We had to clean out our cages atmediatly. Mine stank like the fish that attacked me in the summer anyway.
I still don't know what day it is. I need to keep better track. Pongo died today, so this experiment has failed. I will not be trying this again. Two more projects to go.
Plan C: Attempt to grow an apple tree and produce edible apples.
It is day 4. so far nothing. I didn't expect anything yet. I planted six seeds, that way there is more of a chance of one actually growing. As for the finding out if it produces edible apples, i haven't quite figured that out. I hope this actualy grows, and grows faster than the carnivorous plants. I started on 2/29, so it's birthday isn't going to be for another four years. poor tree.
Day 25: It is looking like a tree... well...baby tree... and it is 1 1/3 inches tall. Grow tree grow!
Day 37: I discovered that it takes 5 years to start growing fruits on a tree, which is a long time, but since the tree's birthday was on 2/29, it will be one year old (leap year). Weird. I wanted apples this summer.
4/28 Day something: My tree is doing well. I am going to plant it in the ground next week and then it will really grow! I really should research more...
5/13 Day something... do you really think i'm still keeping track? anyway, I planted my tree on saturday, and already it's growing faster!
Little bunny foo foo ate my apple tree! :(
And just in case you're wondering what happens if Plan C goes wrong...
Plan D: Take some sort of small amphibian (like a lizard or a newt) and freeze it, and take it out 3 weeks later, see if it's alive, and observe it if it is.
